What happens when my free tokens run out?
Generation stops until they refill. Your books, notes and everything you wrote stay exactly where they are and stay readable and editable — nothing is deleted and nothing is held hostage. 150,000 free tokens land in your account every month, so it refills on its own. The sign-up grant itself is one-time and does not refill; the monthly allowance does. To generate again mid-month you either buy a top-up pack or start The Writer plan. Top-up tokens never expire.
Do I actually have to subscribe?
No. Top-up packs are a complete, permanent path — buy tokens when you need them and never start a subscription at all. Most people who write steadily end up subscribing because exports and publishing become free and the math is simple: one $14.99 plan covers the whole book. That is your arithmetic to do, not a wall we put in front of you.
Why is the free tier so generous if you sell tokens?
The free account is the funnel, not the product — 1M tokens on sign-up and 150k/month get you into the habit of writing. The product you pay for is consistency: 3M tokens every month on The Writer, or exactly the tokens you buy as you need them.
What needs a purchase?

Image generation costs 20k tokens. On pay as you go, a first lifetime purchase (a $5 top-up qualifies) unlocks extraction; after that every step just costs tokens. On The Writer plan, exports and publishing are included — nothing extra to buy.
How does token carry-over work?
Unused plan tokens: 25% carries into next month and is spent first. Carried tokens expire at the end of that month. That is the cap on stockpiling: unused plan tokens cannot snowball beyond about a month and a quarter of supply. Tokens you buy in packs are yours forever — they never expire.
What do you mean by "weighted" tokens?
Different AI jobs consume model capacity at different rates — a whole-book review reads every chapter and costs more than a quick chat answer. Weighted tokens are the single meter for all of it, so one number honestly reflects everything you used this month.
Do my royalties go through Scribegrove?
No. We generate your book's files; you submit to publishers yourself via their portals. Royalties go directly from publishers to you. We don't take a cut of your book sales, ever.
What does the 30-day money-back guarantee cover?
Subscriptions include a 30-day money-back guarantee from the first paid charge, as long as you haven't already exported your manuscripts via the publishing files or the library archive. Once you export, the subscription's value has been delivered and the guarantee no longer applies.
Can I upgrade or downgrade later?
There is one plan — The Writer. No tiers to upgrade between, and you can cancel anytime. If you ever want to stop subscribing, your packs and free allowance keep you writing.
